Who We Are
Incubated by Capstone Community Action, an anti-poverty organization that has long seen the challenges posed by transportation by those overcoming poverty.
Gopher was established in May 2023, and is operated by Community Rides Vermont (CRVT). CRVT is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, hybrid public transit company and contracted transportation provider serving Washington and neighboring towns in Orange Counties.
Funding is provided through revenue from market rate and contracted rides, grant funds from foundations, and private donors.
Our Three Ride Services
Gopher operates a fleet of electric SUVs and a staff of trained drivers to meet rural Vermonter’s everyday transportation needs. Gopher offers three (3) ride service programs: Gopher-It Rideshare for subsidized discounted market rate rides, Market Rate Rides, and Contracted Rides.
Gopher-It Rideshare is intended for low-income individuals who are not being served by other existing public transportation options. We are able to discount rides for eligible customers. Please see our Book A Ride page for more information.

Goals
Gopher’s goal is to expand transportation options and fill in gaps in our service area.
Gopher seeks to lower the number of single passenger cars on the road to help decarbonize transportation options through our fleet of zero-emissions energy efficient vehicles by providing shared rides to community members.
Gopher Provides
- Access for low-income individuals and those with limited transportation options in rural areas to help attain economic mobility and an improved quality of life.
- An expansive network of rides to decrease reliance on single occupancy vehicles, sharing rides between subsidized and market rate riders.
